Traditionally, Orthodox women cover their hair while in church, as Saint Paul encourages them to in his epistle to the Corinthians. We hope to carry a variety of scarves that are fashionable and something most women would want to wear, rather than it being a burden. You don't have to be frumpy to be traditional!
Currently, we are stocking a line of handmade silk scarves from Cambodia. We buy these from a fair trade co-op, which means that the silk farmers as well as the scarf weavers get fair wages for their work. Moreover, the fair trade co-op donates a portion of its proceeds to the school in the town in which the scarves are made, Prek Bong Kong, which enables the children to get a better education. Each scarf that you buy provides ten children with a year's worth of school supplies. Thus, these scarves are something that you can feel good about.
We are also currently selling shawls that are hand-woven from Anatolian silk. We buy these from a silk shop located in Bursa Kozahan, which has been in business in Bursa, Turkey for over 600 years!
