Royal Hojari Frankincense

Author: Monastery of St. John

This is not the frankincense you have smelled before! So unique that it is almost beyond description, it is best described as having a very refreshing, invigorating, pure smell with a hint of lime. It is quite simply heavenly. You can even tell simply by looking at the photo that it is different from most frankincense you may have seen: the "tears" of the resin are green to clear, rather than varying shades of yellow.

Produced only in the Dhofar region of Oman on the southern coast of the Arabian Peninsula, this is internationally-recognized as the highest grade of frankincense in the world. It is produced from the resins taken from the first cutting of the youngest plants of a subspecies of the Frankincense tree (Boswellia sacra) that can be grown only in this particular region. It was this particular variety of frankincense, and not the cheaper varieties that are commonly found in stores today, that was at one time more valuable than gold (and it's still not cheap!). Due to the predominance of the oil industry in Oman as in the rest of the Arabian Peninsula, fewer people are engaged in harvesting the resins of this already rare tree, and so, it is even harder to get than it had been in the past as only three desert tribes in the Dhofar region keep the tradition alive. Moreover, as it is so highly prized, the majority of each year's harvest of this grade of frankincense is purchased by the Sultan of Oman, hence how it earns the name "Royal Hojari."

This frankincense is extremely rare and hard to find, and is not exported in large quantities from Oman. We are only able to offer it to our customers through connections in the Middle East which connect us directly with the harvesters. As far as we know, we are the only business, Orthodox or otherwise, based in North America that sells Royal Hojari.

Additionally, though we cannot make any official claims, as the resin is so pure (it is the hand-selected best of the best resins of the Dhofar subspecies of the Frankincense tree) it is generally considered to be hypoallergenic and will not irritate most people who are normally bothered by incense. It is also a traditional Middle Eastern remedy for asthma.

Don't miss out on this opportunity to try the frankincense that was once more valuable than gold! After trying this, you'll finally understand why the Magi brought frankincense as a gift to the newborn Son of God!
