The first volume to be released in English of the Greek five-volume set of Elder Aimilianos's teachings. Elder Aimilianos was at one time the abbot of Simonospetras Monastery on Mount Athos and played a huge role in the monastic revival that occurred on the Holy Mountain in the 1970's and 80's. This particular edition contains his writings on the monastic revival as it was occurring and the restoration of true monastic life to the Holy Mountain after decades of idiorythmic life there. It also has a catechism on prayer and homilies on various hesychastic saints and fathers.
From the summary on the book jacket:
"The Jesus Prayer is not simply a prayer. It is food from Christ, the Lamb of God, present in the remembrance and invocation of His divine, terrible, and most sweet Name. It is also a draught of the heady new vintage of Grace, which is so uplifting. The whole of Christ is assimilated and then we reflect on the properties of God, gods from God made Godly, radiant, and mystically active."
"The traveller crosses the sea, land, and air to set his affairs in order and then to relax in his home, reaping the reward of his labors, his opportunities, his joy, and above all, his wealth: the fruits which he garnered. The worker, the farmer, the professional man, all strive to make their living, to gather together their families, to enjoy their material goods and provide for their children. This is true of every father, but much more so of the spiritual father and the spiritual harvest. The seed which is sown and the garnered treasures are his children. And the children are the life of the father."
